Fifty-two football fans
have set a new Football Aid record for the most amount
of money ever raised from playing two matches on the
hallowed turf of Hampden Park.
Over £23,500 was raised
by fans from both of the two games, Scotland Vs Scotland,
and Scotland Vs the Rest of the World. Each fan paid
for the unique chance to pull on the shirt and play
in a 90 minute fully officiated charity football match
on the 31st May 2008. The match was supported by a
host of footballing legends: Scott Booth, Trevor Stevens,
Pat Nevin, Alan McLaren and Paul Lambert, and fans
had travelled from as far away as the Netherlands
to participate in the game.
The all-Scottish game ended
with the Away team grabbing an astonishing 11-3 victory,
however it was a victory for Scotland in the International
Challenge, with the Away team unable to capitalise
on their many chances to keep them from losing by
8 goals to 1. International Challenge star, Ross Donald
was exceptionally proud of his wonder goal at the
national stadium.
He said: “It was a very
good experience as always, and the access to the lounge
at Hampden definitely improves the whole day.
”I will definitely be
back. Taking part in Football Aid is now a regular
slot in my diary - and with seven wins out of seven,
and 9 or 10 goals, I'm keen to keep up my good record!”
In past years, moneys raised
from this event have helped fund projects including
Childline, the Children’s Hospice Association
and the Highland Perthshire Sports Trust, all of whom
were nominated by the SFA and our sponsors, BT Scotland.
Charitable funds generated from
the event are distributed through Football Aid’s
parent charity Field of Dreams, and split between
Diabetes research and management programmes and other
highly deserving charitable projects nominated by
the SFA and BT Scotland. If you would like further
