Norway v Scotland Preview
12 August 2009, Uluveaal Stadium, Oslo, Norway
History
Norway was first exposed to football in the late 19th century and was an enthusiastic adopter of the sport, however the harsh weather conditions and Norway's adherence to amateurism restricted their growth internationally and they have only qualified for 3 World Cup Finals (1938, 1994 & 1998) getting as far as the 2nd round in 1998 (from Scotland's group!). It is their woman who have greater achievements, winning the Women's World Cup twice.
You boys took one hell of a beating
Norwegian football flourished in the 1990's with a large number of players including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Man Utd), Tore Andre Flo (Chelsea & Rangers) & Stig Inge Bjornebye (Liverpool) moving to England & Scotland. Before this the most famous Norwegian connected with football was commentator Bjorge Lillelien, who could not contain his delight after Norway achieved a historic 2-1 win over England in 1981

Scotland
Scotland have a good record against Norway having won 8 times and only lost twice out of 16 meetings, although Chris Iluwemo would probably agree that we should have 9 wins against them! Our full record against Norway is -
P-16 W-8 D-6 L-2 F-33 A -17
Our last visit to Norway was in 2005 when a brace from Kenny Miller gave us a comfortable win despite Norway pulling back a late goal for a final 2-1 scoreline

Norway currently sit bottom of group 9 with 3 points, after drawing 0-0 away to Macedonia and losing 2-0 to Netherlands in June meaning they need to beat Scotland in August to have even a slim chance of finishing 2nd
